Don't miss this opportunity to learn about valuable resources and healthful information from the comfort of your own home. June 1 RELAXATION TECHNIQUES
Amy Schaible, Associate Director of SCWW, will offer suggestions including breathing techniques, visualization, and acupressure to help you reduce the stress in your life and discover your calm center.


June 8 MEMORY TIPS
Make the most of what you've got! Join us to learn some great strategies to help you remember the names of people you just met, where you put your keys, and other bits of information. Facilitator is Heather Gray, MA, Family Support Coordinator for the Alzheimer's Association of Northern California.

June 15 FALLS PREVENTION
Did you know that habits developed over a lifetime could put you at risk for a fall? This discussion will help you identify and reduce those risks. Presenter is Colleen Campbell, Alameda County Public Health Department, Senior Injury Prevention Program (SIPP) Coordinator.

June 22 LAUGHING THROUGH TROUBLED TIMES
Those times when nothing seems funny may be just the times to get your funny bone tickled. Join Bev Bender, MA in Gerontology and Certified Laugh Leader for an hour of hilarity and humor. "When the going gets tough, the tough start laughing!"

June 29 NUTRITION
Good nutrition, food safety, and health eating habits are a few of the topics that will be covered in this discussion. Presenter is Mary Louise Zernicke, MS, MPH, RD, Nutrition and Dietetics Instructor, Merritt College.

July 6 WORKING WELL with HOMECARE WORKERS
Linda Ayala, Training and Outreach Coordinator for the Public Authority for In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS), will offer tips on how to have a good working relationship with your care provider or housekeeper.

July 13 TELEPHONE REASSURANCE
Terri Becker, TLC Program Director at Eskaton in the Sacramento area, and Sabra Learned, Director of Tele-Care, a Bay Area program, will discuss telephone support programs, which provide daily calls to seniors living alone, offering friendly social contact and checks on safety and welfare.

July 20 SPECIAL EVENT: ACROSS THE MILES
Participants in three other telephone activities programs, one in New York, another in Connecticut, and a third in Texas, will join us in an exchange of photos of local landmarks and discussion of life in our different locations.

July 27 HEALTH LIBRARY and RESOURCE CENTER
Suzie Bahmanyar, Health Library Marketing & Outreach Coordinator at El Camino Hospital in Santa Clara County, will tell you about the wonderful free services, including caregiver consultations, requests for health information, and referrals to services available by telephone to all California residents.

August 3 ADVANCE DIRECTIVES and POLST (Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment) It is important to let your loved ones know about your health care wishes in the event you are not able to tell them. Participants will be mailed forms which they can fill out stating their wishes. Presenter is Betsy Carpenter, volunteer with El Camino Hospital in Santa Clara County.

August 10 LAUGHTER: GOOD for the HEART, GOOD for the SOUL
Bev Bender, MA in Gerontology and Certified Laugh Leader, will talk about laughing exercises that research has proven promote health and reduce stress.

August 17 TALKIING with your DOCTOR
Good communication with your doctor is so important to your health care. Betsy Carpenter, volunteer with El Camino Hospital, will offer suggestions for preparing for an appointment, giving and getting the right information, and other practical ideas to help you get the best care possible.
